Balance Seen as New Dealers Economic Aim

Washington Oct 25 Government supervision of economic forces must hold to the middle of the road to avoid a fatalism versus futilism. John Dickinson, a New Dealer, now assistant attorney general, argues for balanced oversight of labor, capital, industry and agriculture. He warns against overemphasis on one group and says prosperity requires gradual increases in production and consumption, with money spent to create new wants and satisfy them. Dickinson, educated at Johns Hopkins, Princeton, and Harvard, teaches that the New Deal is an active force shaping national prosperity rather than a temporary expedient.
