Charles 5. Longacre, 86, former world official of the Seventh Day Adventists Church, died yesterday after an operation to remove a tumor. He directed the World Religious Liberty Association of Seventh Day Adventists for over 30 years. Born in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Communists Resume Quemoy Shelling After Short Lull

On Formosa the Chinese Communists fired on the Quemoy islands after a 23 hour quiet. Nationalists answered with eight inch howitzers and other weapons brought in during the cease fire. The Red guns initially hit Little Quemoy and nearby islets then turned on Quemoy itself as defenders claimed heavier punishment inflicted on enemy positions and ammunition dumps.

Union City Motorist Unhurt In Area Mishap

Aoysyeatuiu Gigunonyalii was taken to Stem Memorial Hospital about 1:30 this morning for injuries from an auto mishap on Route 8. John Harnak allegedly drove toward Union City, failed to negotiate a right curve, and drifted off the left side, scraping a post and spinning on the road. The victim received brush burns to the head and was released. auto damage was slight. Police to continue investigation.

Cave-In Mine Kills Three Near Shippingport

Officials probe the shippingport mine roof collapse that crushed three men, Jack Call 18 Dale Haskell 26 and Frank Haskell 21. Miners Trapped In Nova Scotia Underground Rock Upheaval

Ninety four miners were missing and perhaps dead after a seismic underground surge at Cumberland No 2 coal pit. Gas pockets blocked rescue of 55 men. 39 were scattered near faces. One body found, seven hours after shift began 7 of 166 survivors reached the pit head, seventeen injured. Draegermen cleared debris as the mine ventilation was damaged by the bump. The No 2 colliery adjoins the former No 4 where 38 died in 1956. Cumberland area recalls historic disasters. A wave of fraudulent checks drawn on a Youngsville bank has circulated in the area. The suspect, using the name B. 2. Sullivan, is a Youngsville resident who has disappeared. Described as 30 to 45 years old, 5 feet 3 inches, about 140 pounds, with very short curly light brown hair and glasses. Local Fire Destroys Upstairs Room On PennsylvanIa Avenue

Firefighters fought a blaze in a house on Pennsylvania Avenue yesterday around 4 30 pm. Ten firefighters with engine and emergency units used two hand tanks and over 250 feet of hose to douse the fire and rescue clothing from the roof. Mrs Ernestine Bortner and her four children escaped unharmed. Estimated loss to the building ran to about 7000 with 200 worth of personal belongings also lost. A large crowd gathered as air sparks were cooled and the scene secured for over an hour.

Three Die In Mine Mishap Near Singuod West Virginia

Three men were killed and a fourth injured in a mine collapse about five miles south of Singwood West Virginia inside a slope mine operated by J Wesley Tiner Coal Co of Kingwood under lease from Baltimore Go.
