Women Relief Corps meets at Emmanuel Church in Corry
The Women’s Relief Corps auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic gathered in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church undercroft for an all day session with a tureen dinner served by the October hospitality committee. A birthday observance honored several members and a gift was given to Opal Pier and Walter Pier on their 50th wedding anniversary. The next meeting is set for November 3 at the church with a new hospitality committee announced. Open House plans for the Pier anniversary run 2 to 6 p.m. at the Moose Lodge.

Annual Sparkettes Awards Dinner Highlights Coronation and Honors
The Sparkettes awards dinner at Moose Lodge crowned Chris Berkhaus Miss Sparkette of 1976. Lisa Hiner Miss Sparkette 1975 presided. jackets and charms were awarded to members for one and two year tenures. Drummers received awards. several earned charms for multiple years. Miss Sparkette 1976 will model in parades. Sponsor thanks were extended to local unions and companies. A separate note reports U S border beef shipments closed by customs on guidance from a deputy secretary amid talks with Canada.

Columbus PTA Holds October Meet
The Columbus Elementary School PTA met in the all purpose room with about 5 members present. The president led a routine business meeting as reports were given and membership reached 218. A Halloween parade is planned for October 29 at 1 p.m. at the school. National Education Week runs November 16 and a Christmas program is planned for December, with the next meeting in January.
