Grim River Search Continues After Norwegian Tanker Crash

In Lutcher Louisiana the search for missing crew members continued after a collision between a tanker and oil barges on the Mississippi River. Nineteen sailors were believed killed with twelve bodies recovered from the river and the burnt hulk of the Motor tanker Boheme. Firefighters extinguished the final blaze aboard the beached ship as salvage operations began and Coast Guard prepared an investigation.

Four Corry area women injured in Corry auto crash

Four young women, three from Corry area, escaped serious injury when their car went out of control and overturned near Leeper, Pennsylvania. Driver Miss Constance Dahl, 20, and passengers Miss Madeline Dundon, Miss Mary Capwell, and Miss Diana Haseley, all 20, suffered minor injuries or shock as the vehicle, a 1964 model, was declared a total loss valued at $200.

Corry Man Cited for Drunk Driving After Crash

A Corry man was cited for drunken driving after a crash at East Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Albert A. Amordso, 30, of 1327 North Center Street, allegedly turned left from Pennsylvania Avenue on a green light as Carl Zunich, 42, of Corry RD 2, ran a red light on Fast Main, colliding with Amordso’s car. Police collected a blood sample from Zurich for testing and a hearing was set for Saturday before Alderman Norbert Bacheluer.

Jon Graham Killed in Crash Near East Liverpool Ohio

East Liverpool Ohio authorities report Jon Graham 21 of Hookstown Pennsylvania was killed yesterday around noon when his vehicle struck an 8 bridge abutment about 12 miles east of the city. Investigators are reviewing details of the fatal accident.

Three Hurt In Two Area Auto Accidents

Three persons were hurt in two area auto accidents over the weekend. Mrs. Donald B. McWilliams, 2, of Union City, suffered a lacerated leg, cuts and bruises, and a nondisplaced fracture of the right tibia. The crash occurred on Route 6 near Union City when a car skidded and hit a slow vehicle’s rear, then struck a utility pole. McWilliams was hospitalized briefly, her husband Wells driving. A second accident west of Corry on Route 6 injured two men from Connecticut, Miller and Daley, with bruised ankles and minor cuts. both were treated at Union City Memorial Hospital and released.

Corry Woman Dies After Rare Kidney Transplant

Mrs Morris Wickwire of 603 North Coate Street died after a rare kidney transplant at Petey Brot Brigham Hospital in Boston. She had entered four weeks ago after transfer from Corry Memorial and Hamot Hospitals. A World War II electrical inspector for the U.S. Army Signal Corps, she married Mortisa Wickwire in 1924 and leaves two daughters Barbara and Toni, plus parents Harold L Brown and wife from Venice Florida, a sister Barbara Hanck of Venice, and brother Robert H Brown. She was active with St Thomas Roman Catholic Church and the local Girl Scouts. The body lies at Bracken Funeral Home with calling hours. Requiem Mass at St Thomas Church next morning. Rosary at the funeral home Wednesday evening.

Despondent Youth Foiled After Roof Jump Attempt

Kennedy to address nation amid dire emergency

President Kennedy asked time on television to speak to the nation on a topic of the highest national urgency at 7 pm EDT. Hearing Set On Route 6 Bypass Project

Harr isburg today notified that a Department of Highways hearing on the Route 6 bypass around Corry will be held November 8 at 10 a.m. in the Municipal Building. The hearing aims to assess the economic impact on communities affected as the bypass runs from North Center Street and Columbus Avenue westward about one mile to meet the existing highway near the State Fish Hatchery.
