Judges Won't Replace DJs In Hearing
Erie County President Judge Edward Carney and Judge Lindley McClelland declined a DA request to act as magistrates at the preliminary hearing for attorney George Schroeck Sr. They said they trust Erie County’s minor judiciary and warned a magistrate appointment would set a dangerous precedent. Schroeck Sr. faced charges of attempting to run down another lawyer, Robert Murray, in a tavern parking lot. His son George Jr., a Public Defender staffer, did not receive a paycheck as he faces eight felony counts for an alleged September assault on a Erie woman. Public Defender Vedder White would not certify the payroll, and the county controller’s office did not issue the check. Preliminary hearings for both are to be scheduled later.
