Erie, Oct 20. Oirence V French, 76, jeweler and optometrist at 1 West street and formerly at 923 State Street, died Sunday after a brief illness. A graduate of the Julius King School of Optics in 1891, he operated his business from 1892 to 1927 and later on West Sixth Street. Born in Corning, N. Y., he had been a longtime member of Erie’s professional community.
KDICA troupe from Pittsburgh will provide an hour of entertainment at the Golden Rule Club Halloween party at the Hotel Corry next Monday. Slim Bryant and his Georgia Wildcats will perform after a steak dinner for members and guests. Tickets went on sale led by Worth Hammond as committee chair. The event aims to attract Corry manufacturers and business men to join the club. enrollment continues this week for next week's Halloween affair.
Corry faces a move to establish a Works Projects Administration nursery program for preschool children. A day nursery survey is underway to assess need, with plans to add 100 plus projects statewide. Types include care for ages two to four from relief or low income families, children two to four of employed mothers, and two to five of servicemen families. Preschool play groups welcome three to six year olds. Participation involves the State Department of Public Instruction and local welfare agencies. It takes about two months for a baby to learn eye muscle control.
The state of Illinois charged Trewin Kadens with two armed robbery counts and one rape count as the case opens. Assistant State's Attorney Francis McCurrie plans grand jury indictments and notes federal charges may follow. A separate note reports watchman John Lukowsk, 62, at Windsor Electric, shot himself at work.
