Blizzard Hits Lake Belt Area With Severe October Snow

The Lake Belt region endured a fierce early season blizzard described as freakish and among the severest on record. Three men with shovels aided thirty Buffalo YWCA workers marooned at a camp, aiming to reach offices by afternoon. Farther north in Jamestown and Chauteauquis County, hundreds of cars halted between Fredonia and Buffalo amid deep drifts, with state highway crews clearing routes and the Mayville Sherman road still closed at midnight.
