James Hughes a 44 year old unemployed railroad worker from Maple Shade New Jersey heard an explosion and rushed to a Philadelphia Pennsylvania Railroad freight yard. He climbed a box car to reach George Forbes nine who was trapped in flames near an 11 000 volt overhead line. Hughes pushed Forbes away from the danger then beat out the flames with rags. Forbes remains in Misericordia Hospital in critical condition with burns over seventy percent of his body.
In Tionesta a 1,000-person community plans to fly the American flag outside homes and businesses for 30 days to counteract antiwar demonstrators. They honor Lt. Robert Fuelhart killed in action and whose wife had just given birth. Civil defense director R B Agnew coordinated 35 local businesses to participate.
