Seven Die In Seattle Hotel Fire Tragedy

A blaze in the Portland hotel in Seattle’s Fields Roads district killed seven guests and injured 15. The old brick structure housed loggers and laborers and broke out on the second floor trapping occupants who piled up at the hallway. Firefighters fought the flames as residents screamed for help and the Japanese proprietor’s wife perished.

Announcement says the Redpath program will be presented at the High School auditorium on October 22 featuring the John Rosa Reed Company, a top touring musical troupe. Community Chest total nears twelve thousand

Insanity to be Bennett case wing's plea at murder trial this afternoon

Temporary insanity will be the defense for George Wing 34 of Concord township at the November term court for the murder of his nephew George Ornsbee. Wing's attorney Bernard Foley says alienists will substantiate the plea and police report a confession. He purchased a rifle during a fit of anger to kill his sister, allegedly angry over her running a disorderly house. The trial includes related civil cases against Wizenberg for false arrest with testimony from local officials and witnesses.

Runaway Coal Car Collapses Waldorf Hotel Kitchen

A man and a woman were killed in Portage Pennsylvania when a Benchley Coal Company coal car ran into the Waldorf Hotel kitchen causing walls to collapse and bury them under debris. Authorities reported two fatalities from the incident dated October 17.

Lost Blimp Guided By Automobile Lights Crashes

The Vigilant blimp ferrying from New York to Akron crashed near Pittsburgh-But Yor airport after losing way in gusty wind. Pilot injured, beacon signals guided by a Bradford dealer in a car allowed refueling at Kane before resuming toward Akron. The craft then went off course toward Johnstown before bearing again toward its base.

Senator’s aide testifies in lobbying inquiry in Washington

United Press reports Charles L Byanson of the Connecticut Manufacturers Association testified before the Senate lobby investigations panel. He was described as temporarily employed by Senator Bingham of Connecticut as a confidential secretary while working on tariff measures. Payment records show $887 by the government for July through August. Bingham seeks opportunity to explain the employment amid tariff debate.

Plan to shift state meeting time defeated at Erie convention

Delegates at the Pennsylvania Woman's Club convention in Erie yesterday rejected a proposal to move the annual meeting from December to May. Coroner announces no inquest into the death of A. Whitt who died from injuries after a Sunday evening automobile collision near Wattahurs.
