A blaze in the Portland hotel in Seattle’s Fields Roads district killed seven guests and injured 15. The old brick structure housed loggers and laborers and broke out on the second floor trapping occupants who piled up at the hallway. Firefighters fought the flames as residents screamed for help and the Japanese proprietor’s wife perished.
Announcement says the Redpath program will be presented at the High School auditorium on October 22 featuring the John Rosa Reed Company, a top touring musical troupe. Season tickets mailed to subscribers. payments due at Miss Fuller’s music store. Reservations for first entertainment begin Monday mornings at 8:30.

A man and a woman were killed in Portage Pennsylvania when a Benchley Coal Company coal car ran into the Waldorf Hotel kitchen causing walls to collapse and bury them under debris. Authorities reported two fatalities from the incident dated October 17.
The Vigilant blimp ferrying from New York to Akron crashed near Pittsburgh-But Yor airport after losing way in gusty wind. Pilot injured, beacon signals guided by a Bradford dealer in a car allowed refueling at Kane before resuming toward Akron. The craft then went off course toward Johnstown before bearing again toward its base.
United Press reports Charles L Byanson of the Connecticut Manufacturers Association testified before the Senate lobby investigations panel. He was described as temporarily employed by Senator Bingham of Connecticut as a confidential secretary while working on tariff measures. Payment records show $887 by the government for July through August. Bingham seeks opportunity to explain the employment amid tariff debate.
Delegates at the Pennsylvania Woman's Club convention in Erie yesterday rejected a proposal to move the annual meeting from December to May. The vote upheld the current schedule as the club year begins in fall and winter. Frederick C. Farty of Hamilton College spoke on Our Changing Education, while Dr Sidney Gullek criticized U S leadership on vice and crime and cautioned on military spending.
Elma Burdick seven years old from Union City was struck by a car near her home and suffered head injuries and severe cuts. She remained in serious condition at AL Corry hospital as of today. the driver Roberts reportedly tried to avoid the collision.
Mrs. Sexton sues the New Work Life Insurance Company in federal court to recover 2000 and related costs after her husband Harvey H. Sexton was legally declared dead. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, with interment at Pine Grove cemetery.
The Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company plans a third city store leasing the former restaurant space on North Center Street, with opening set for November. Frank P. Lite owns the building and will remodel, redecorate, and remove fixtures, while Me Lux handles sale of store fittings and equipment.
United Press reports a Jersey Coast bootleg empire centered on a radio station at Highlands. Agents arrested 84 principals after a night raid on ships, trucks, and a coast network with a Manhattan sales office at 25 East 403rd Street. The operation allegedly controlled over 1 million dollars in liquor and used a radio hub to run distribution.
