An intimate associate of Warren G Harding he helped manage campaigns and faced Teapot Dome scandal and other irregularities. He resigned in 1924 amid Senate investigations and spent seven years defending himself against allegations without convictions.
Berlin reports quote authorized sources saying Germany seeks to remove British Prime Minister Churchill and Foreign Secretary Eden within 10 days as a precondition for any possible peace feelers. The sources claim the Fuehrer expects clear military decision against England after these removals.
Gerald Grover 24 of Near East Branch was held for the grand jury after a hearing before Alderman B. Parisr on charges of larceny from the Aero Supply Plant. A massive blaze at the Firestone Rubber and Tire Company plant in Fall River Massachusetts caused about 13 million dollars in property damage. In Armstrong County, a home explosion yesterday fatally burned Ruth Allee Rupert 28 and her five year old son Charles and left visitor Mrs Ross 40 of North Apollo dead later at Kittanning Hospital. Norman Rupert rescued Mrs Ephraim Stewart, age 70, who was staying with the Ruperts. Stewart’s daughter and son-in-law kept safety by fleeing through a window.
Robert Hurl a 49 year old Sharpsville World War veteran died in Buhl hospital after a fall from a root as he examined scaffolding at Bharieville Publicating Company. He was the father of two children.
Mrs. Jack R. Paulson, 24, of 328 Bass Smith Street, Corry, was placed in an iron lung as polio paralyzed her chest and lungs. A community donated respirator supported her at home after transfer from Corry Hospital where a strict quarantine aimed to halt spread of the disease. Mrs. Paulson, mother of a two year old, had worked in the City Treasurer’s office.
Indiana Pa October 13 Elmer J Pennington 50 was held in Indiana County Jail awaiting coroner inquest into death of Goby Vutral 35 after a fight outside Glen Campbell taproom Saturday. Pennington entered the taproom and Vutral was found along roadside. Coroner Edward K Plem said death from cerebral hemorrhage with a swollen hip as only injuries listed.
