Finnegan loses bid for Supreme Court review in case trial
James P. Finnegan, confidant of former President Truman, had his Supreme Court review denied regarding a two year sentence and $10,000 fine for misconduct as an internal revenue collector in St. Louis. Prosecutors claimed kickbacks from Warwick Hotel and Lithofold Corp tied to government deals. Mortis A. Shenker filed the appeal, arguing trial publicity harmed fairness. Separately, thousands were turned away at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cloisters due to a 170-guard strike.
