The Selective Service System continues in operation as 13 men from Union City area are drafted for induction in Pittsburgh. The group includes Richard Joseph Fland and several others from Erie, Union City, Waterford and nearby towns. They will travel by bus for processing and assignment to service. Pennsylvania boards plan to induct 3537 men in November, with September discharges totaling about 33,000.
Harrisburg Oct 12 A legislative investigation committee has urged the State Revenue Department to adopt new forms for automobile owners to reveal financing methods. The proposed form would show unpaid balances, how determined, insurance charges, interest and service fees, and dealer commissions. The committee also urged the State Insurance Department to list the actual owner and purchaser equity on policies involved in war financing.
Joseph Black of Sharpeville R D 2 Sharpsville Pa pled guilty in Federal court to possessing sugar without ration coupons and was sentenced to four months in jail.
