Veteran hitter wins for the Giants with a seventh inning homer. Sparkling plays fuel a close pitching duel between Nehf and Jones as the game reaches a dramatic finish.
Old Casey Stengel hit a seventh inning homer at Yankee Stadium to spark the Giants to a 1 0 victory over the Yankees in the world series. The 65 000 crowd watched six innings of scoreless play before Stengel delivered the decisive blast.
Auditor General Lewis Jory refused to approve expenses for erecting the General Meade monument in Washington and for related repairs. The decision, linked to transfers to the Water Supply Commission, delays work on the Meade memorial at the National Capital and the related Pennypacker memorial project.
A carrier pigeon delegation arrived in the city this afternoon aboard Erie train No 7 from New York City led by A Ilireth. The birds will be released at Pollock in the morning on the return to New York over 410 miles. A consignment of wire is to be released here last Saturday. Large crowds are expected at the Bacprens station to watch the release of the birds.

Erie was selected as the site for the 1924 meeting of the Pittsburgh Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at the closing session held yesterday at St Matthew's Church. The convening body will assemble at St Paul Lutheran Church in Erie.
Plans and arrangements are well under way for a card party to be held Tuesday evening October 16 in Macabee Hall by the Catholic Benevolent Association. Mrs Newcomb is chairing the event which promises to be a success. A large number of tickets have been sold and refreshments will be served by the committee.
Ohio Senator Willis told the Lyceum State Sunday school convention in Williamsport that he strongly supports enforcing the 18th Amendment. He praised Governor Pinchot and Alcohol Smith of New York and said it is too late to change the law. The 4 000 attendees heard Willis quote speeches by his friends and the late president as the convention neared its close.
An inquest found moonshine caused several poisoning deaths in the city, naming Edward Guugu as the first victim. Witnesses described victims rapidly deteriorating after drinking, with others including Wright Eblers and George Baldwin among the seriously ill in hospital. A second inquest will identify the liquor manufacturer as police investigate the case.

State Highway Department reports construction of a new bridge across Hare Creek on East Main Street. The structure will measure fifty eight feet in length and twenty four feet six inches in width, using concrete and steel. A female student in Wilkes Barre and a Marchlard College of Chiropractic senior clashed after jealousy. The woman drew a revolver in a drug store and fatally shot her lover, then fled. police recovered a note and arrested her as the incident unfolded.
Bandits blew a tunnel during the San Francisco express robbery near Redding California. Four trainmen died including engineer S. L. Bates and brakeman C. Johnson. Fire damaged the tunnel wreckage, mail car looted, and criminals fled into Siskiyou Mountains as searchers scour the area.
