In a muted ceremony, community members gathered to honor Mrs. Heir at the Indio Day event. Local groups proposed recognizing her service to youth and fisheries outreach with a small procession and brief remarks.
Sophomore Tri-Hi-Y members were initiated at the YMCA with officers led by president Sue Smollek and past president Wendy Masler receiving pins. New members include Joanne Sekerak and others, with fall plans featuring a hayride, Halloween window decorations, and a candy sale under advisor supervision.
Mrs Crawford Sallee and Mrs John Rozelle hosted a tureen dinner for Lillian Guild members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The event in the church undercroft was followed by a business session led by president Mrs Betty Pratt. Plans for the coming month and a rummage sale were discussed. A program meeting is set for November hosted by Mrs Louis Morrow and Mrs James Kensinger.
The Women’s Society of Christian Service at Elgin United Methodist Church met at the home of Mrs Francis McCray. Mrs Vincent Sexton led the lesson Prayer and Self Denial with all members taking part. Mrs Robert Burrows conducted the business session. Refreshments were served by Mrs Gertrude McCray. The next meeting is set for November 12 at Mrs Gertrude McCray’s home.
Mrs. Robert W. Schilling announced the annual YMCA Christmas Bazaar chairmen led by her as general chairwoman. Financial chair Mrs. Robert Davidson. tickets Mrs. James Kelsey. publicity Mrs. Bertha McMichael. membership Mrs. Estella Wells. dining room Mrs. J. Earle Bliley. Booth chairs include Mrs. Al Pilz for Christmas craft. Mrs. H. H. Keppel honorary. Mrs. Clifford Buesink bakery. Mrs. Olin Simmons candy shop. Mrs. William Gumbleton attic treasurer. Mrs. James Hileman fish pond. Mrs. Eugene Bloom kid s corner. and others. Workshops start Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Y. Interested persons urged to join.
The October business session of Catholic Daughters court No. 35 met at the VFW Post Home with Mrs. Fred Ahl in charge. Miss Anna Shields read a report and an invitation was extended for the Warren court birthday dinner on November 16. John Rossbacher urged members to join a preparation practice for the YMCA Christmas concert starting October 26. Twenty five members attended with refreshments provided by the October committee led by Mrs. Michael Comitz. The next meeting will feature an October social and a white elephant sale.
Jewel Arlene Roberts and Santo Michael Pate Jr are engaged and will marry in June 1970 at Columbus Community Congregational Church. Miss Roberts attends Corry Area High School and works at G C Murphy. Pate attended Corry Area High School and works at the Corry Auto Auction.
A retirement dinner for Mrs. Harry Lamona marking 45 years with Associated Spring Raymond Division was held at the Corry Motor Inn hosted by company women employees. She received an orchid corsage and gifts. arrangements were by Mrs. W.W. Hess, Mrs. Vincent Dugan, and Mrs. Yvonne Wilshire.
Mrs. Anne Andrus hosted the Deborah Circle of First United Methodist Church on Tuesday evening with 19 members and three guests at East Congress Street. Devotions by Mrs. Laura Cogan on Faith preceded business urged attendance at the annual membership tea next Monday and to bring a guest. Mrs. Frank Ross missionary from West Irian spoke on her school work and will headline the October 30 call to prayer and self denial.
Announcement of the marriage between Miss Shirley Ann Kozloff and First Lt. Dennis Jon McMahon. The couple wed August 18 in San Juan Puerto Rico. Kozloff is a 1968 graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing. McMahon is a 1966 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. They reside at Camp Lejeune North Carolina.
