William Edward Hickman, kidnapper and killer of Marion Parker, was denied a U S Supreme Court appeal on his death sentence to be carried out October 19 in Los Angeles. Justice Sutherland refused to grant the appeal from the California Supreme Court ruling upholding the sentence. Walsh plans to seek review from other justices.
Miss Eileen Kimmy of 141 Mott Street was injured with a wrenched back and shaken in a late night crash three miles east of Union City on the Concord road when a car driven by Wayne Dyckee left the highway and struck a telephone pole. Fellow occupants including Mr Howlett and Mr Courtright escaped unharmed. Kimmy was taken to Corry Hospital with improving condition expected to allow discharge tomorrow.
Rain today forced postponement of the fourth World Series game between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees at Sportmen's Park. Judge Ketesaw M. Meadis, baseball commissioner, announced the decision after inspecting the field. the game will be rescheduled for the next available date and tickets for the fourth game will be honored.
Gov Alfred E. Smith begins a southern tour aimed at softening hostility to his candidacy in doubtful border states Tennessee Kentucky and Missouri. He travels with Mrs Smith and daughter as he meets leaders in New York before boarding a campaign train for Tennessee with key aides and a wealth of political backers.
New Bedford’s 56 textile mills, closed 25 weeks by a 27 000-strong strike, partially reopen with police from five cities maintaining order. In the first hour, 34 radicals opposed ending the strike and were arrested for disturbing the peace and loitering. About 300 officers at mill gates faced threats from anti compromise radicals as unions vote to accept a 6 percent wage cut instead of 10.

In Clarksburg West Virginia a bomb planted in electrical gear at the Cortright colliery pumping station exploded when Joseph Dudley activated the switch. He suffered severe injuries including the loss of both legs and his condition was described as critical at a local hospital. An investigation by Sheriff Tagac Davison and Captain Hobart Brown aimed to identify how the device was placed.
Don F Smith a longtime Corry attorney died early this morning at his West South Street home after a week long illness with pneumonia. Born in Columbus he studied law with George Gimstead and was admitted to the Erie equity bar in 1899. He practiced here, served as city solicitor, led civic and Republican activities, and was a charter member of Corry lodge BF O and local Masonic bodies. Survived by wife Elizabeth Baker Smith and a daughter Alice, funeral Wednesday at 2 40 p m at Dr A J Smith’s home with Rev Woodward officiating.
Following a fine autumn day a heavy killing frost visited the city early today. Flowers and vegetation were laid waste by the freeze, the first severe one of the season. The frost was general throughout the vicinity and few flowers likely escaped damage.
A plane from Yorkville Field crashed on a hillside near Marting yesterday injuring three people. Pilot Capt J R Adams 36 and passengers Wel don Maxwell 17 Karl Rother snlind Jr 17 sustained injuries and Mrs M F Coyle was also reported hurt after a trip to Buffalo.
Boward Galation, 56, of Ville, died in an automobile crash about 6:80 last evening, while returning from a visit in Union City. The vehicle left the Waterford road about a half mile west of Taylor City, injuring Galation severely and causing facial injuries and a broken leg. He was taken to Vinton City Hospital where he died.
A farmer Henry Knoch of Tracey’s Corners near Erie Ham Pa was found hanging in his barn. Authorities believe he killed himself Sunday afternoon after a personal crisis.

H G Barnes who has operated a grocery at North Center street and Columbus Avenue for fourteen years is erecting a new one story store just east of VanTassel garage at North Corry. The building, 50 by 20 feet, is built of cinder blocks with cement saving. A W Hermon holds the construction contract. The North Corry corner building has housed a grocery for years with Barnes and his son continuing a successful business.
A dormitory fire at the Ohio Penitentiary killed at least 12 to 16 inmates and left many unaccounted. Debris and 18 skeletons were found as guards and townspeople aided the search, with officials unsure of the full death toll. Names of missing prisoners and identifications were reported by noon.
Larry Semon, noted silent film comedian, died at the Gareblon ranch near Victorville California of pneumonia contracted while attempting to recover from a nervous breakdown. His wife Dorothy Dawa, actress, was at his bedside.
