Improvement noted for Mrs. Ralph McAninth of Arnold Pennsylvania formerly Spartanburg after severe car crash near York last week. She suffered a compound fracture of the collarbone, cuts and bruises. She has been moved from York to New Kensington Hospital and is progressing. Mrs. Lawrence Snapp of Spartansburg visited over the weekend.
Four city firefighters and a janitor were injured as a five story Liberty building in Waco sustained nearly $300,000 in damage from an explosion. Warren Moore, the janitor, said he lit a gas heater just before the blast, leaving him severely burned.

Milk dealers in Harrisburg and across the state await a general order from the milk control board that would set uniform retail prices, likely raising quart prices by about 2 cents. Central counties now sell milk at 10 cents a quart, with 12 cents for Grade B and 15 cents in Philadelphia. the change would align smaller counties with Metropolitan districts. Dealers protest cited as contentious cases move through court. the order is expected to take effect around December 15.

Three Franklin youths were held by state police on charges of stealing five and a half tons of steel rails from the Franklin Steel Co. The suspects are Addison Hawn, 21, driver of the truck. John Geral, 19. and John Pokora, 18.
Erie County voters show a narrow Democratic edge after 1936 enrollment figures. Totals across boroughs towns and two cities list Republicans 40,265 and Democrats 39,070, a margin of 595, the closest in county history. Democrats hope this turnout supports Roosevelt on November 3.

Around 6 000 pickets ringed the Berkshire knitting mills in Reading Pa aiming to close the world's largest hosiery plant. About 1 000 workers entered the mill as 125 state troopers watched to prevent disorder. Funeral services for M Earl Schlegel, who died after driving through picket lines, were announced for Wednesday. In Punxsutawney Pa Jack Wari, 70, was found dead in his rooming house from accidental asphyxiation per the coroner.
A local naturalization class event hosted by the Corey WPA Adult Education setup and Brekenshaw chapter D A R featured remarks on citizenship and the U S Constitution. speakers included Erie county prothonotary, Rev G B McNamara, Milon L Brown, and members Josep Vadovich, Josef Wesley, Mary Jackson, Nina Messina, Elisabeth Lorence, Walter Womak, Dominick Path, and Matthew Bezek. The program included songs and a reception with red white and blue decor.
The Rotary Club presents a three night fair and hobby show October 7 through 9 at the State Armory. Avorty six exhibits will feature work by students from High School and St Edward's. The stop course study plan will be shown under Principal Harold G. Wolfe. Entertainment includes multiple acts each evening, bingo booths and other novelties. The High school band will parade from the High School to the Armory each evening.
Bert Hurst a 33 year old Corry resident and former Wattsburg worker was killed when his car collided with another at an intersection near Detroit. The other driver was detained for inquiry as police prepared an inquest in Verroil. Hurst left his brother’s home shortly before the crash. He leaves a widow Marjorie and two children, plus four siblings. The body will be sent to Wattsburg for funeral services at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Allan Adams son of Mr and Mrs Carl Adams suffered a compound fracture of his left leg in a woods accident Saturday. He was working with his father when a log slipped and struck him. Admitted to Sorry hospital at 6 30 p m the fracture was treated by Dr J C Kibler and the prognosis is cautiously optimistic for recovery.
Jacob Gable, 20, convicted of murdering elderly neighbor Mrs Harriet Goltstein in Cambria County, was denied a new trial by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The high court affirmed the lower court’s verdict and ordered execution.
