Lantern-caused fire destroys Coon barn near city

A lantern fell from its peg in S C Coon's barn and exploded last evening, burning the barn and threatening the nearby dwelling. The blaze consumed hay, horses, hogs, poultry, and farming gear, with losses estimated over 2500 dollars and about 800 covered by insurance. The Coon farm lies five miles south of the city on Spring Creek and Spartansburg Road.
