Stranger in Roxbury ends in brutal arson murder
Evelyn Wagler, a 24 year old Chicago woman, moved into Roxbury Boston to look for work. She was set on fire by six black youths after a gas fueled confrontation on Blue Hill Avenue and Wayne Street. She walked into a liquor store asking for an ambulance before dying. Police described the attack as a targeted self immolation after being dragged behind a vacant lot and forced to douse herself with gas. The crime occurred near a welfare office and an Episcopal church, amid a shifting neighborhood once Jewish, now largely black, with crime along Blue Hill Avenue.
