Bill Dies Pa Highways Get No Help
Harrisburg AP. A compromise highway maintenance measure failed in the House Republican caucus. The plan would have raised the gas tax and shifted $20 million in revenue sharing for repairs, but GOP opposition centered on the use of federal funds rather than the tax itself. Governor Shapp endorsed the package earlier, while House leaders urged using revenue sharing for general tax relief. Westerberg aims to return to conference talks with a new proposal as the six member panel reviews road funding.
