Tax Fight Targets Budget Reopen for Cuts Not Tax Hike
In Harrisburg lawmakers from both parties push to reopen the state budget to enact further cuts rather than raise taxes. Key figures Rep. Frank Meluskey and Rep. Fred Trello favor cuts with local funding restored, while Sen. Richard Tilghman calls it a real probability. The Black Caucus stance over Gov. Shapp’s firing of C. DeLores Tucker adds pressure, with Speaker Irvis cautious about withholding tax votes.
