Local notices announce a Shore Vote Special and promotional item for hot fudge sundae at Tas tee-Freez on Route 6 west of Corry from today through Thursday. The piece lists hospital contact details, admissions and discharges, and names residents from Corry, Spartansburg, Union City, and nearby towns, including addresses and family relations.
Five Marion County youths from Franklin Central High School were killed when their car was struck by a passenger train near the tracks just after 2:40 p.m. on a school day. The victims included Alimyans son Robert and four close friends. The train, delayed and traveling 70 to 80 mph, collided with the car at the crossing. Neighbors recall the tight-knit group as the “beat of friends” who often rode together after classes.
The funeral service for William E. Haenel was held yesterday at the Bracken Funeral Home at 4 p m with Rev. Robert DeBoer officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery. Bearers were William Hall Eugene Hinfile Ralph Linderen Donald Kelly Floyd Say and Pete Gagliano. Attendees from Meadville and surrounding areas included numerous Haenel family members and friends from Jamestown Olmstead Falls and many towns across Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Colin Master, newly named works manager, holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lafayette University and served four years in the Army as a captain. He previously served as assistant plant manager at Bendis and as assistant plant superintendent at Bassick Co in Bridgeport. Master, married with two children, is moving with his family to Corry soon. His wife, a Bucknell biology graduate, also holds a bachelor’s degree. The Masters are avid scuba divers spending time in Florida waters.
A 24 year old East Berliner plowed a heavy truck through a concrete border wall near the Heinrich Heine Strasse checkpoint on the American sector border. Red guards opened fire with automatic weapons but missed the driver during the escape attempt to West Berlin.
