About 700 Aero Supply Mfg. Co. plant workers voted to accept a contract granting a 2.9 to 3.0 cent hourly rise, 22 percent of current wages, plus vacation and insurance changes. Forty one teachers in the Beccaria Coalport Irvena Joint system started a two day strike to protest the state legislature failing to pass a tax bill for their salaries. The walkout affects 1080 pupils across the Junior and Senior High Schools and five elementary schools. Teachers plan to return Thursday and may resume strikes if payment is not received by October 15.

Madrid reports that Generalissimo Francisco Franco pardoned hundreds of detainees arrested during earlier strikes to celebrate the 16th anniversary of his rule. The anniversary was observed yesterday. The total number of those jailed for the living costs protests has not been officially disclosed.
Washington reports September employment about 1,606,000 people, nearly the August minimum, with a dip explained by student summer work. Civilian jobs in the week ending September total roughly 61.58 million.
At 5:30 AM a home blaze killed 24 year old Fred B Wheeler and badly burned his wife and two older children. Neighbors report a gasoline explosion from a stove started the fire while Wheeler tried to burn wood. Wheeler died at the scene or shortly after. the wife and children were hospitalized.
Sen Bricker R Ohio denounces President Truman’s security order as subversive and an insult to free people. He introduces a repeal bill with Senators Capehart and Ferguson urging removal, while officials claim no censorship and signals potential rescission.
General Omar Bradley told reporters in Tokyo that United Nations troops in Korea are strong enough to prevent any hostile crossing and to continue fighting if truce talks fail.
