Charles Huffman, 22, Corry man, convicted of murder in the death of his infant daughter Marie. He was sentenced to six to twelve years in state prison and ordered to pay court costs and a $500 fine. His wife testified. defense urged mercy due to a troubled upbringing. Huffman will be transferred to Western Penitentiary soon after sentencing.
In Centerville R D 3 on a Saturday night Francis Sweeney 28 Belewar Amities was treated at Titusville Hospital after a 12 gauge shotgun discharged striking his foot. Sam Pollitt and Robert Harvey were handling the gun when Pollitt unknowingly pulled the trigger sending the shell through Sweeney’s foot. Police were alerted to the accidental shooting with first aid administered at the scene.
Pennsylvania Railroad eastbound passenger train was delayed three hours last night after a collision near Columbus Ohio. Engineer Florence Mudleon driven by John Ray Click of Jeffersonville escaped. no injuries reported.

Theodore Nelson, 22, of Hamburg, dumped a stolen Parkhill and Mart truck near Sugar Grove while en route to Albuquerque, NM. He was injured in the wreck with facial injuries and abrasions, later jailed on motor vehicle larceny charges and to be returned to Buffalo. The incident caused $900 in truck damage and $260 of laundry loss.
Harrisburg Oct 1 The General Assembly began its two month recess with only a handful of senators and representatives in today’s session. Senate leaders proposed delaying the tax deadlock and other issues to the holiday session while Sen John Walker offered a substitute tax plan. The plan would raise estimated levies and cut $35 million from the governor’s $2.22 billion budget, including $18 million from civil defense and $9 million from public assistance. House Republicans signaled possible approval if the Senate insists, with limited business and a home-stay for members this week.
In Weetstade, England, six miners were trapped 760 feet underground after a shaft wall collapsed at the Weetstade coal mine. One miner was pulled out hours later suffering gas effects. Rescue teams faced gas, heavy water, and a collapsed shaft as crews worked to reach those trapped near the main shaft.

About 1,900 workers at Pittsburgh's six largest hotels ended a strike threat over the weekend by accepting a three cent hourly wage increase with an eight cent boost for tipped workers and improved hospitalization benefits.
