September brought killing frost and storms with highs near 80 and lows to 28 degrees. Weather observer George Mulderlet cited total rainfall of 2.1 inches with peaks on the 2nd 12th and 24th and winds on September 9 and 21 causing scattered damage northeast of Corry.
The Pennsylvania Department of Highways completes tests to fit two way radio units on maintenance equipment for a two year experiment. Installations planned in Cambria and Erie counties by November 1 to improve snow removal operations and supervisor contact during emergencies.
Two Marine surveyors and a third man were injured when sections of the front wall of Pier 57 at Hudson River collapsed while inspecting fire damage. A fourth man, longshoreman John Paynell, was shocked and hospitalized after witnessing the accident. The collapse struck the renamed offices of the Great Line operator at the pier.
In Pittsburgh on October 2 the U S Attorney moved to drop cases against Ferdinand Samuel Lynch a former sergeant at Camp Reynolds Mercer County and his sister Mrs Tillie Rider Indictments included conspiracy to conceal government property and receiving and concealing thefts of medical supplies from a Camp Reynolds hospital The U S Attorney cited insufficient evidence for further prosecution and noted Mrs Rider was an innocent victim
