Minors Wrestle with Thorny Bonus Rule at Mayors Event
Two Corry Filgh JV wrestlers Dick Malek and Gary Donaldson, both juniors, prepare for an opening match against Townville in Warren as their team, last year a fourth place finisher, seeks a conference crown. Donaldson moves to 133 pounds while Malek drops to 127, following last season’s limited outings. In Tampa, minor leagues face a vote on an amended bonus rule aimed at curbing lavish signing bonuses, with 14 of 22 leagues reportedly ready to approve proposals from major league officials. The plan would cap first year farm-outs, set waiver costs, and keep players on a 25-man roster, drawing opposition over potential stifling of club initiative and talent migration.
