American units rolled over Berlin's autobahn to West Germany in defiance of Soviet warnings. Soviets tightened checks on U.S convoys, but did not halt them, with a minor paperwork error delaying the last section for about an hour.
The United States fights to keep Peiping out as the Soviet Union urges seating Communist China in the United Nations. A U N vote is planned to determine the China question by two thirds, with expectations that Nationalist China may retain seats. In another veto, the Soviet Union blocks Kuwait's U N bid, signaling Arab‑Soviet rifts while Kuwait seeks membership as Iraq disputes its territory.
Scrap dealer Bud Weinstein of Web-Erie Co. Inc. says his Jamestown based firm acted promptly after tires were damaged by metal scraps. Carl E. Smith, 27, of Brookville, spent the night trapped in an overturned compact on a 66 foot embankment after crashing across an open field. Found by Mrs. Eliason near Waterford, he was taken to Union City Memorial Hospital via ambulance after initially heading to the Veterans Administration Hospital for care. Police reported possible chest injury skull fracture spine injury broken ribs and a neck cut near the jugular vein.
William Lindberg of Lakewood New York reported a salmon colored station wagon with Pennsylvania plate 178987 struck his parked car on West Main Street then backed into George Cools proprietors Texas Lounge car. Police, armed with the license number, expect to learn the driver’s identity soon and he may be summoned as a witness.
Washington AP Officers of the Communist party in the United States failed to meet the registration deadline under the Internal Security Act. Attorney General Kennedy signaled the Justice Department will enforce the act as the government plans to move against the party first. The law imposes fines up to 100 a day on the party and similar penalties for officers and members who defy it. The dispute traces to 1950 legal battles and a Supreme Court decision, with the party denying links to the Soviet Union and planning to defy the provisions.
Erie County judge Elmer Evans ruled the two injunction petitions against Millcreek School District hearings on teacher George Pease. The board proceeded with its case as Hoetzl and 14 Millcreek taxpayers sought to halt the inquiry into Pease, accused of incompetency and negligence after declining to supervise a bowling club. Hearings began Monday but were delayed by the injunction actions.
City Council adopted a 242 248 budget with taxes unchanged and earmarked 5 000 to enforce city codes and regulations. Revenue from real estate tax and wage tax is forecast at 201 640, aided by meters, licenses, fines, and other small sources. the enforcement agency cost remains a debated item for 1962.

The PUC said substantial business is handled at the station and the savings would be slight compared with the inconvenience to patrons. Elimination would force patrons to transfer business to Corry or Titusville amid protests from the boosters club and local businessmen.
AP reports in Havana that Communist party chief Blas Roca, fresh from visits to the Soviet Union and China, stated that Russian rockets would assist Cuba if attacked. He told television the Cuban revolution is durable and warned of a long, ongoing conflict with the United States.
Acting Secretary General U Thant criticized Katangy President Moise Tsihombe as very unstable and said concrete plans would be laid next week to address the secessionist Congo Province crisis.
One of the nation’s first oral Sabin polio vaccines was tested yesterday in Clymer and nearby Freehcreok and Corry with children and adults participating at the Clymer Central School and Community Building. Vaccine supply ran low as crowds formed, 454 inoculations completed, and officials considered future sessions once more vaccine was available.
