Reductions in Poor Fund Do Not Cut Taxes
The county budget outlook shows a trimmed poor fund appropriation from 420,000 to 375,000 yet still $125,900 above this year’s grant. Controller Harvey M. Willis says the shortfall must be raised by taxation and that final tax rate decisions lie with the new county commissioners. The board also urged a 22,000 line item for 61 more voting machines, with potential 10,007 savings if purchased, but the new board must act.
