Honest Agency Returns 2000 To State In Budget Rollover
Erie local agency sponsoring anti drug and alcohol programs says 2000 was excess salary from a turnover not replaced and returned to the state for use elsewhere. The council has a 151000 operating budget with 97670 for salaries and runs a speakers bureau and training programs for public and private social services. During the past year it provided information and referrals to 4735 Erie County residents and trained 28 regional trainers who trained 113 teachers.

Death toll on Erie roads climbs toward second-highest year
Erie County Coroner Merle Wood vents frustration over rising highway deaths this year reaching 67 with a recent 34 year old Robert Roden death in Corry. He notes 1973 had the most at 76, now a downward trend but this year defies speeds and interstate patterns with Millcreek and Erie each at 11 deaths and 32 fatalities from Aug to Oct alone.
