President Johnson prepared to address the Viet Nam policy dilemma at a full dress White House news conference at his Texas ranch. A Taylor meeting in Washington is not expected to yield a major decision, a White House source said, as officials seek to avoid dramatic expansion of the war.
In Kodiak Alaska a twin engine P2V Neptune from Whidbey Island NAS crashed into a mountain near Cape Newenham while on a routine coastal ice patrol. A four man rescue party found wreckage and bodies four miles west of the Cape Newenham warning station. Major Curtiss Gruye led the rescuers. Visiblity at the site was about 80 feet and radar contact was difficult due to low altitude.
Corry plumber Robert Garfield was awarded 1935 dollars plus interest by a Warren County civil court jury for plumbing work on a Columbus home built in 1963. Bates hired Garfield for an estimated 2500, Garfield submitted 1935, Bates did not pay, and attorney William A. Peiffer represented Garfield.
Jonas B. Fitzgerald, 19, of Oley died when his dump truck, trouble-plagued on a grade, rolled backward over an embankment. He was hurled from the cab and crushed when the truck struck a tree. State Police traced the sequence from witness accounts.

A federal court jury in Miami ruled cigarettes are reasonably safe for human consumption and found for the defendants in Edwin L. Green's estate suit seeking 150 million dollars against American Tobacco. The verdict followed two hours of deliberation and denied damages for Green, a three packs a day smoker who died of lung cancer in 1957.
Corry Area High School Key Club members work toward a $2 100 Christmas lighting fund. Richard Chase says $1 412 deposited, with First Ward fully covered and about half of Second Ward. House to house canvass resumes, missed homes can mail contributions. Goal is to improve First Avenue decorations and expand to East and West Main Street.
Ed ward A Rumely 2 former editor and publisher of the New York Evening Mail died Thursday in La Porte Indiana. He was a prominent media figure and former publisher with a long career in journalism.

In Leopoldville Congo the Congo lese rebels are blamed for new white victims bringing the total to 97 with unofficial reports of another massacre suggesting up to 150 foreigners killed.
