Warren County Jail Shrinks As New Center Planned
Warren County jail inmates hovered near 50 with a peak of 55. Sheriff Don Allen noted overcrowding above 30 and that the aging facility, once built for 62, has been cannibalized for parts. The county plans a new penal center next to the courthouse with bids expected in December and demolition in January. Inmates will be relocated during construction to Mead Township, Erie, and McKean County jails as needed. Meanwhile Virginia Tech freshman fullback Bob Vorhies died at 18, apparently of a heart attack, with an autopsy in Roanoke to determine cause of death.
