High School Seniors Try Marijuana At Half Rate

Washington AP reports government surveys show more than half of the Bicentennial class of high school seniors have tried marijuana with about 32 percent current users at graduation. Separate institute surveys find 18 to 25 year olds with 53 percent tried and 25 percent current users. costs of drug abuse run between 84 and 122 billion annually, with tobacco and alcohol costs also itemized.

FDA proposes warning labels on fluorocarbon aerosols

The FDA would require labels on most fluorocarbon sprays such as deodorants, hair sprays, and colognes warning that chlorofluorocarbons may harm public health and the ozone layer. CPSC plans an immediate move to ban fluorocarbons in non cosmetic items while public comments on labels run 60 days.

City Council Sweats Single Garbage Bid Takes Sharp Jump

Corry City Council faced surprise at a special meeting as only one bid arrived for garbage services. Viewers Peg Hammond Lot At 8500 In Downtown Renewal

The Erie County board of viewers awarded 8500 to W W Hammond Jr for a downtown urban renewal lot, 112 percent above the City Redevelopment Authority offer of 4000. Hammond asked 9500 and an appeal may follow as the authority weighs next steps. The Kibler appeal period expired earlier.

Washington AP report says Richard A. Sprague, chief counsel for the House committee on assassinations, calls it unusual that authorities did not obtain a full confession from James Earl Ray in exchange for accepting his guilty plea in the slaying of Dr. Martin Luther King. May Election Faces Complex Districting Under Home Rule

Erie County will redraw seven voter districts for county elections under the Home rule Charter. Five seats will come from Erie and Millcreek areas, while two seats remain for other municipalities. Early petitions open February 15, 1977, with filing due March 8 and the May 17 primary.

Health Center Proposed for Erie County Elderly

Lifeline on air saves teen from suicide in Albany

AP reports radio host Brian Lehrer kept 19 year old Matthew Joslin on the line after sign off at WOBK in Glenmont. An alert listener called police who found Joslin unconscious and rushed him to a nearby hospital in good condition.
