Troops Leave Vera Cruz This Noon

Court of Appeals In Session At City Building

The court of appeals and tax revision began this morning at the city building under Commissioners Brown Maxander and Mayor Patterson with Clerk Kincaid presiding. Sessions run morning to evening with hearings expected on property owner appeals from recent assessments.

East Branch store burned in early Saturday blaze

The Armitage general store at East Branch was burned to the ground early Saturday morning. The loss was estimated over eight thousand dollars, with more than six thousand in stock. The fire’s cause was not learned. The store was one of the area’s leading general stores.

Engineer from Harrisburg oversees three grade crossing hearing

Herbert Snow of the Public Service Commission and his stenographer arrived in the city this morning and registered at the Shoenix Hotel. Anademson with Attorney Kincaid for Con sent township supervisors and Attorney Smith for the actual directors of hw township and other residents visited the three grade crossings scene. This afternoon at one oclock Snow will hear about thirty residents testifying on the plan to preserve the crossings by closing roads. Hearings may extend to tomorrow with all factions represented by their attorneys.

City Commission Debates New Lighting Plan for Main and Center

City officials and business leaders met in an informal session at the City Building to discuss a proposed lighting scheme for Main and Center streets. J J Desmond attended along with the Mayor and three commissioners to review pole and cluster light concepts, aiming for city business district cooperation. The plan envisions city upkeep by the municipality and business owners handling poles and fixtures, with cluster lights eventually replacing older standards.
