Judge voids grand jury ruling in youth offender case
Mayville November 21 judge overruled the grand jury recommendation to treat 16 year old David A Shaw as a youthful offender for a stabbing case on Falconer Street. Shaw pleaded guilty to second degree assault and faces sentencing in December under the youthful offender law designed to shield under 19 offenders from publicity. The judge ordered public arraignment sealed, and kept the case under probationary terms after reviewing the grand jury’s recommendation.
