William Lindstrom of Pittsfield was arrested after a chase when a Dodge car was driven on Bayle Street with no lights. The owner, Raymond McCray, said no permission was given to the five youths in the car. Lindstrom, in Army uniform, faces charges of taking the car and traffic violations.
Uy Associated Press reports from Tokyo about a reputed Manchuria ringleader who allegedly took poison or killed himself after an arrest order. The former Japanese War College commander was found dead in his office with blood and a ceremonial sword nearby as Allied reporters arrived. A letter from Henry claimed he could not endure facing a court and wrote of distress over national shame before his suicide.
Harrisburg reports the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will place 195000 cases of whisky for unrestricted sale, beginning November 26, while retaining restrictions on some brands. Two week ration periods extend through the winter, with specific windows from November 28 to December 8 and December 16 to December 22, plus holiday week portions.
