Veterans placed in jobs in Corry by USES branch

Wounded Soldier Vern Johnson Reported From War Front

Mr and Mrs Vern Johnson of Piccidillt Til road east of the city received a War Department message stating their son Cpl Vern Johnson has been slightly wounded while serving with American forces on the western front in Europe. He has been overseas about a month and saw action on the Italian front before taking part in the southern Prince invasion and recent western front fighting.

Fire destroys Franklin Park Theater in business district

A early today fire leveled the Park Theater on Liberty Street in Franklin, also destroying Dug-out Cafe and lunch room. The Kaytan Theaters Co. building, two stories, suffered extensive damage with losses estimated between 75,000 and 100,000. Firemen prevented spread to the adjacent States Hotel. The blaze started among seats on the first floor. cause is unknown.

Cpl Alton Hinman son of Mr and Mrs Carl Hinman was seriously wounded in France during the early American offensive after Normandy. He telephoned his parents from Balboa General Hospital Staten Island to say he had arrived in New York.
