One Mill Increase in County Taxes Expected
County taxes must rise from eight to nine mills in 1986 to fund a boosted appropriation for the poor directors. Harvey M. Willis says the additional money, about 170000 beyond the 420000 asked by the board, must come from tax revenue or other sources. The board also faces an 85000 debt to Warren State hospital, pushing year-end obligations toward 50000 owed to the state institution by January 1. The eight mill rate was set last February with hopes to cut to seven in 1935, but new needs override that plan.
