The Public Service Commission was petitioned to approve the sale of Erie Lighting Company to Pennsylvania Electric Company. Erie Lighting, a 100 percent subsidiary of Pennsylvania Electric, will have its debts liabilities and stock assumed by the parent and canceled. The consolidation aims to simplify corporate structure and reflects utilities’ trend toward simplification.
In Philadelphia on November 19, Mrs. George B. Stromons of Marshall Missouri urged the abandonment of the AAA unless ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. She claimed a consumer revolt exists and blamed consumers, arguing farmers would prosper if left alone and that the AAA redistributes wealth but only redistributes property.
Harrisburg, Nov 19. Governor Harles administration shows more progress in stream pollution abatement than prior ten years, says Attorney General Charles J. Margiotti in a letter to Mayor McNair. He cites industrial pollution of the Clarion River by four tanneries and a sulfite paper mill as the main contamination source and names Elk Tanning Company plants at Wilcox Ridgway, J K Mosser Leather Co at St Marys, Kistler Leather Co at Johnsonburg, and the Johnsonburg paper mill as offenders.
William J. Kernitz fer, a petroleum technologist, warned that California’s petroleum reserves may be exhausted in about 41 to 45 years at the current depletion rate. He said the state’s output could dwindle to insignificance within 15 years, after reviewing nationwide reserves for the study coauthored with 1921 estimates.
Alton Munsee of Union city, a well known local, was sentenced to four months in the county prison on a drunken driving charge. He appeared before Judge William E. Hirton in Erie county court yesterday for sentencing and was assessed court costs.
New York dispatch reports Vera Stretz the blond slain Gebhardt’s death in his fashionably apartment. Samuel Leibowitz attorney for Stretz says legally and ethically Gebhardt got what was coming. Stretz indicted by November grand jury and to be arraigned in general sessions Thursday.
Police combed the district for a car load of gypsies believed to have held up and robbed W. B. Southworth, a Minnesota farmer, of 125 dollars early Sunday morning. The farmer was attacked and robbed by three women during the incident.
Milk producers in Corry and vicinity will receive ten cents more for October milk, paid by the Dairymen's League Cooperative Association. The October price is $1.88 cash and certificates, plus a half cent plant volume premium, totaling $1.43 for milk delivered to the Corry plant. This is ten cents above September and eight cents above October 1934.
