Paris Nov 17 The Communist party refused to join a three party appeal to General De Gaulle to reconsider stepping down as interim president of France. A 30 member committee from the constituent assembly failed to reach a decision as CDU and socialist mediators urged De Gaulle to reconsider. De Gaulle rejected Communist demands for key posts saying he does not seek the job but intends to keep control of foreign affairs and security. The party remains divided while leaders seek a new interim president to form a government ahead of Monday assembly.
The first night landing in six years occurred at Port Erie Airport when a Pennsylvania Central Airlines transport plane guided by new field lights touched down. Government curbs on night landings since 1939 were due to inadequate lighting.
