In a Justice Court in North Rust, Ruby Eastman Stetson testified about the night Lloyd Wilkinson was slain. Milton Cherry, recently completing three years in the Navy, opens a Westinghouse sales agency in the Rex Theatre Building on West South Street. The store will offer refrigerators, electric stoves, water heaters, radios, lamps, and the full Westinghouse line with service. The display and sales office will be in the Rex Theatre building, as the space is refined for the new occupants.
This evening a demonstration tests two new 600 candle power street lamps with a cantilevered fixture elevating 22 feet, replacing the 250 candlepower lamps in the business district. Manager Cherry of the Pentlea system arranged the test at Superintendent of Safety’s request. Fred Kinley notes the new installation completed this morning.
Three Army recruiting party members will arrive in the city next Tuesday, November 20, to seek enlistments of men aged 17 and older and to encourage re enlistment of discharged servicemen. They will stay four days, arranging a local office at the Post Office building and coordinating with permanent recruiting headquarters at Waren.
SGT Hulings, a Corry paratrooper, is back home after six years of service and has reenlisted. He joined a unit that entered fallen German capital with ribbons and was among the first Corry soldiers to serve in Central Germany and on the Rhine. He earned the unit’s ghost award, and his division’s actions in the ETO are noted. his family confirms he remains on permanent service with reassignment to Fort Meade.
Report from Pusan Korea dated November 16 describes mass movement as Japanese families, Koreans, and Japanese soldiers await ships to return to the homeland, while thousands of Japanese and Koreans are ferried back to Japan. American officers report orderly scenes with minimal distress as roughly 247,000 Japanese workers and their families have been shipped, including 99,000 troops, and about 257,000 Japanese have been transported to Japan.
