State police say a man near Kane is one of eight men smuggled into the country for 80 dollars each. Two others are under arrest and five were captured in the woods near Kincaid. The escape of a suspect from Wetmore last week aided police in locating the ring.

Clara Barton spoke at the Danville Methodist church as the organization grew from a small local gathering to an international service over fifty years.

Theo Williams completed a purchase Saturday of Stanley H. Nichols’s interests in Williams & Nichols, making Williams sole owner. Nichols, retiring from the Army, has not set future plans. Williams will run all insurance lines from the Barlow block at Main and Center streets.
Joseph Engelsburg, political lieutenant of Mayor Blimey, started an eight month jail term after a two year legal fight. The judge ordered him to Allegheny county jail to serve time for conspiracy to violate liquor laws. The Supreme Court denied review and he pursued further petitions.
