Lawrence Leads Push to Allow Governor to Serve Two Terms
Harrisburg AP reports the state Commission on Constitutional Revision favors changing the Commonwealth’s basic law to allow a governor to succeed himself indefinitely. The panel, in a 4-3 vote, also proposed a five member State Pardons Board with four governor appointees for six-year terms and keeping the lieutenant governor as chairman. Other changes include removing an archival requirement, adding a social welfare article, and allowing Senate confirmation of gubernatorial appointments by a simple majority. The commission also urged further study on terms for auditor general and state treasurer and whether to keep the attorney general as an appointive office.
