Decision due on quota law case in Pennsylvania
A Philadelphia Superior Court will rule within ten weeks whether private clubs fall under Pennsylvania liquor quota law. If clubs are exempt, a flood of license applications may follow. The Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company of Bethlehem appeals a Lehigh County ruling denying a club license, arguing clubs are exempt from quotas. Veterans groups watch closely as many licenses have been denied in communities where judges side with the liquor board. Attorney Robert McCracken argued the legislature intended exemptions for clubs and noted many volunteer fire companies rely on licenses to survive.
