What Lies Beyond the Stratosphere Speculation
United Press reports Dr William J Humphreys of the Weather Bureau envisions temperatures in the ionosphere near 100 degrees Fahrenheit, a summer day warmth, though air would be too thin to breathe and explorers would likely burst. The piece notes uncertainties about radio roof versus ionosphere, and cites Explorer 11 and Omaha sounding balloons for context.

Trout stream improvements grow with projects statewide
Harrisburg reports that sportsmen, Boy Scouts, CCC workers and others aided trout fishing by stream improvements across Pennsylvania. Dam installations, current deflectors and covers created better habitats, willow planting and shore cover aided survival. October levels were low but pools behind dams offer protection for brook, brown and rainbow trout amid predators.
