Court Upholds Fired Teacher In Consolidation Case

The Pennsylvania State Supreme Court ruled that school districts may not dismiss teachers after consolidation unless staff levels shrink or tenure laws are violated. It ordered Indiana County's South Mahoning to reinstate Jean McMil en Simpson, an elementary teacher employed since 1941, after she was discharged following the merger with Plumville borough schools.
