Rug Weaving in Orient Subject of Fine Lecture

At a Woman's Club gathering, Samey J. Rashid spoke on rulemaking and the art of rug weaving in the Orient. He traced weaving to the 24th century BC with rugs found in tombs in Egypt and Mesopotamia and noted the Tree of Life design. The three main rug groups Persian, Chinese, and Egyptian differ in design and workmanship, with Persian rugs valued for intricate patterns and dyeing secrecy. The talk highlighted symbolism in designs and the collecting hobby, and Rashid offered various sizes and colors of rugs for display and sale, concluding with an engaging program.
