Two Plead In Erie Kidnaping Third To Be Tried
In Erie County Court two men, Richard Doolan and Peter Lackawanna, pleaded guilty to kidnapping for extortion. A third defendant, Richard Mallory, was granted immunity to testify for the state, with Mallory expected to name James Russell as the organizer. The fourth man remains to be tried, while Doolan had an alibi and Mallory claimed shared entry with Peter Russell. A New defendant’s immunity marks a local first in such cases. Warren E Ringler named acting commissioner of higher education in Pennsylvania. Ringler, previously assistant commissioner for programs and services, succeeds Dr Frederic K Miller whose resignation left the post vacant. Ringler’s education includes a B A from Kutztown and a M A from Temple.
