The Royal Order of Moose Corry Lodge No 98 began its annual Operation Santa Claus to collect usable toys for needy children at Christmas. Arthur Lila, the chairman, urged area residents to drop off toys at the Moose Home on Washington Street or give to committee members Dean Bashline or C. James Sheldon. New toys may be purchased if no toys are available.
Darrell Whol ayer, 53, of Westover, was killed when a coal cat ran over him at a dumping wharf in Glen Campbell near Indiana Pa. He was the seventh of thirteen children.
In Harrisburg an AP report notes the House approved a plan to add 45 million dollars in state aid to about 2,300 school districts, sending the measure to the Senate. Supporters say funds come from a 5 million dollar stocks and bonds tax. opponents and Gov. Lawren ce demand revenue from a tax measure. The bill, reduced from 200 million, would raise the per pupil teaching subsidy base to 6 200 for 1959 80 and 8 900 for 1960 61.
The Corry Planning Commission decided to create a steering committee drawn from city government education religion commerce and industry to assist in planning efforts. Mayor Kinley and planning head A Anderson will ask representatives to join. Michael Baker engineers discussed maps and a survey on the old high school site with plans to hold a meeting Tuesday at 7 40 p m at Area High School.

Three young Afro Puerto Rican defendants and one Black youth were sentenced for raping a white woman near a Brooklyn subway station. Lewis Vilella 19 received 15 to 30 years, Jimmie Lunsford 17 and Alexander Williams 18 10 to 20 years, Daniel Bellamy 20 7 to 15 years.
A blizzard at Malmstrom Air Force Base left the only runway blocked after a T33 trainer crash landed, while a flight of F fighters was scattered. Several planes ditched or landed at distant fields as fuel ran low. Fewer than 20 aircraft involved, with no blame assigned to the trainer.
Four people died in a Tucker area house fire in Arkansas today.
