Dunkirk Harbor Runs Low Water as Storm Hits
Heavy east and northeast winds drove Lake Erie water out of Dunkirk Harbor leaving the harbor as much as 200 yards from shore. Two boats, a tug and a commercial fishing boat, grounded as pilings of the 150 year old municipal pier became visible. The Weather Bureau tied the low water to a storm centered over southwestern Pennsylvania that began last night. A veteran fisherman said it was the first time in memory the harbor has been so low.
