RIDGWAY AP A $2,000 fine and suspended jail sentence were handed out yesterday to a former vice president of four St. Marys finance companies which collapsed under an alleged $3.7 million investment toss. Edward J. P. Jacob, 3, accused of knowledge of illegal activities before retiring in October, was sentenced in Elk County Court by Judge J. Paul Campbell. The judge said Jacob would not serve a one to two year term if he pays the fine and observes parole terms. Two other former officials, George Rupprecht and Carl Gerg, were sentenced to one to two years and fined $5,000 apiece in August. The companies were Industrial Finance Co. and its subsidiaries St. Marys Finance Co., Elk County Consumers Co., and Industrial Discount Co.

In Lebanon, Police ruled the deaths of Joseph R. Bowman and his wife Hannah as an apparent murder suicide. The 67 and 62 year olds were found in their home after a school custodian reported Bowman missing from Himsburg Public School for two days. A shotgun lay beside Bowman in a second floor hallway with Hannah found in a bedroom.
