New York November 10 Associated Press reports phone equipment workers began a new push button strike tactic. Pickets moved from some exchanges while others faced sharp activity mode with surprise actions. Union spokesmen describe jamming as overloaded calls to local and long distance circuits to disrupt service.
Long distance service in Corty area near normal amid a CWA walkout dispute. Bell System kept most long calls working as operators faced picket lines in New York City New Jersey and Philadelphia. Federal mediators seek settlement as 18 000 Michigan workers launch a hit and run strike while Ohio and other states see daily picketing. The national walkout began with 17 000 CWA members against Western Electric and other Bell affiliates.
Cleveland July 1 1950 Al Lopez former Indianapolis manager of the past three years was named manager of the Cleveland Indians for the next two seasons The salary was said to be the highest ever paid to a Cleveland pilot Ellsworth Ryan president of the Indians stunned newsmen by naming Lopez and implying Lou Boudreau would be reassigned Ryan had stated no replacement would be sought while Lopez could not be announced earlier Lopez now becomes Indians manager for 1951 and 1952
The Chamber of Commerce report shows income of 3 90970 and expenditures of 4 181.78, yielding a net loss of 279.08, not including the Potato Bowl game. Officials estimate about 500 from the game and had hoped to raise 1,000 to fund billboards and civic improvements while considering a Corry schools expansion.

City police report a break in at Ky's Diner on North Center Street. A cigarette machine was pried open with a screwdriver and about 18.50 was looted. Spaulding Co. of Meadville confirmed the amount and noted no cigarettes were disturbed. Police had no suspects as of midmorning after checks by patrols.
A wind driven wildfire in San Bernardino California raged through sparsely settled northern foothill neighborhoods for four hours. About 200 firefighters fought the blaze aided by nearby towns as homes were damaged and one colonial residence valued at $35 000 burned. Residents fled as the fire spread toward the mountains while a separate dust storm caused zero visibility and widespread outages across southern California.
Hollywood, Nov. 1. Danny Kaye has been offered a record $20,000 a week for 12 weeks at the London Palladium during the 1951 festival of Britain. His manager Ed Dukoff said the $240,000 offer comes from Harry Foster, Palladium management, after Kaye set attendance records in 1949. The London deal calls for 19 weeks in June, July and August with two shows nightly, six nights a week and a matinee.
A federal jury in Washington indicts a Puerto Rican suspect in the fatal shooting of Lelie Comele, 40, during an attempted break in at the Blair House presidential residence. The case hinges on eyewitness testimony and the weapon used.
Four mutomobiles sustained damage in two separate city crashes on Corry streets yesterday. Joseph Thomipson, 23, of Erie, faced charges for failing to stop and driving a vehicle without a licensed operator. At South Center and Pleasant streets, Rev Harry G Bowmare’s Chevrolet struck by a vehicle owned by Dell File and Edward Harper, causing Bowmare’s car to suffer $1200 damage and the other car $175. Police noted drivers were not properly accompanied and cited other details as part of the incident report.
An Albion woman missing since October 6 may be Hyinye An Cony. A man traveling over 2000 miles in pursuit of his wife’s whereabouts told police this week that a Joel resident matching her name and description has been living in this area for over a month. A separate note reports a truck fire caused by an overheated tire near Wing Will Star Store No 1, extinguished by Brigham Plumbing and Heating Company responders.
